‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ in 3D

18 05 2010

Yep, the Pirates franchise has hopped onto the 3D train. It has been announced that the fourth installment of the popular Disney swashbucklers will be filmed using Disney Digital 3D, and not converted after filming for the sake of cashing out on the 3D trend.

The good news, the 3D is going to look so much better being that it’s filmed specifically in 3D format. The bad news, it’s in 3D. To be honest, I enjoyed the first three films without the added cannonballs flying in my face, and I don’t think it’s necessary for Pirates to conform. Being that it already has such a huge following, whether or not it’s in 3D probably wouldn’t detract from the already established fan base. But that’s just my opinion.

Unfortunately for the Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly fans, you won’ t be seeing Will Turner of Elizabeth Swan anytime soon. ‘On Stranger Tides’ introduces a few new characters: The villainous Blackbeard (Ian McShane) and Blackbeard’s Daughter (Penelope Cruz), who according to IMDB has no character name released. Rumor also has it that Penelope Cruz’s character will become Jack Sparrows new love interest. Sounds spicy.

‘On Stranger Tides’ is directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Nine) and is due for theatrical release on May 20, 2011.
